Just a few years back, UpStart ignited a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering the leadership potential of young adult Jews of Color. Imagine being part of a movement that empowers these emerging leaders to navigate their diverse identities’ unique opportunities and challenges while carving out a meaningful career path.
My role as a mentor in this transformative program has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. UpStart, true to its mission, is passionately committed to instilling Jewish values in the hearts of a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant community. It refuses to see equity as a mere zero-sum game, actively seeking out innovative solutions to rectify injustice where it hits hardest.
UpStart’s cadre of fearless leaders is on a mission to shape the future of the Jewish community. Take, for instance, Project Shema, a dynamic force in our current cohort, training Jews and allies to combat contemporary antisemitism. Simultaneously, Ammud: The Jews of Color Torah Academy creates spaces where Jews of Color can learn, lead, and belong. The impact doesn’t end there – Upstart alumni, like Detroit Jews for Justice, champion the rights of those fighting against systemic oppression.
The fire that UpStart ignites in me to support these entrepreneurial trailblazers is relentless. The time is now, and the future of our community depends on the passion and commitment we bring to this cause. I implore you to stand with me in “bringing bold Jewish ideas to light.”
