The Advot Project

BOLD JEWISH IDEA

The Advot Project prepares youth for success by teaching them communication and relationship skills through the arts.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

Their core program, Relationships 101, is an interactive arts-based curriculum focused on the methods of improvisation, Viola Spolin and Augusto Boal. This is the core programming they lead in underserved communities throughout the school year and summer programming. Through this program, young people participate in a series of interactive activities that provide them a chance to explore and practice healthy communication skills.

Our weekly workshops are modulated to the population at each location. The duration of the program is 10-13 weeks. They utilize various forms of theatre, dance, writing, and visual art, depending on the needs and capabilities of the groups. Their one-time Listen, Act, Change workshops underline our five tenets of good communication: compassionate listening, avoiding mistranslation, listening to your inner voice, using I statements, and understanding that perspective is subjective. Through this workshop, participants are introduced to concrete tools for healthy communication through collaborative and interactive learning.
